Ideas powered redesign

Challenge

The client, EUIPO, the European Intellectual Property Office, developed the Ideas Powered platform, a portal for managing online content aimed at specific audiences: businesses, teachers, and young creators.

This portal was already developed and online, but the user experience was very poor: there was no coherence with the main brand, it had a lot of content that was difficult for the user to digest, and it was also difficult to see that each portal was aimed at a different audience.

Approach

I participated in the project with two other people. We began by creating a preliminary content architecture for the three portals, unified under a common portal. We differentiated the content to group it into blocks and thus facilitate the user experience when finding relevant information.

We also grouped all the graphic elements that appeared on the pages to separate them into modules and define which elements were necessary. We identified the modules that didn't exist in the brand guide and proposed them as new ones.

With all this, we proposed several mockups to the client with the new content groupings and blocks.

After the client approved the prototypes, we proceeded to study a color system for each portal. We used colors already in the brand's palette and chose the most characteristic color for each portal and audience based on the emotions associated with each color. We also designed the necessary modules in keeping with the brand's style and finished polishing the portals' interfaces.

Outcome

The final designs for each of the three portals were delivered, along with a style guide for font use and photo selection for each portal. The client was very satisfied with the result, which was also completed in a very limited timeframe (one month).
